Tuna sandwiches are a popular food item served throughout the United States. They are typically made with tuna fish, mayonnaise, lettuce, tomato, pickles, onions, and bread. While the exact origin of the sandwich is unknown, some believe that it was created by a chef named Oscar Tschirky while he worked as a cook aboard a ship during World War II.
Others claim that the recipe came from a restaurant called “The Original Oyster House” located in New Haven, Connecticut. Regardless of where it originated, the popularity of tuna sandwiches has grown over time.
