Sub-Zero refrigerators have been around since the 1980s, but they were originally only used in high-end homes. Today, however, sub-zero refrigerators are increasingly being found in middle class households.
But despite all the benefits of owning a sub-zero refrigerator, there are some drawbacks too. One of the main ones is its dispenser related problems.
Sub-Zero refrigerators come with built-in water tubes that provide cold water when you turn on the tap. But sometimes these tubes freeze over, causing the water to stop flowing out of the spigot. Here’s how to fix it.
1. Check the Water Tube
Checking the water tube is the first step in fixing a frozen water tube. To do so, remove the cap from the spigot and look inside. If the tube is clogged, you’ll see some ice buildup. Remove the ice and clean the tube with warm water
Next, wipe the spigot with a dry cloth. Be careful not to touch the metal parts of the spigot with your fingers. Replace the cap on the spigot and test the flow of water again. If the water still doesn’t flow freely, repeat Steps 1–3 until the water flows smoothly.

First things first, make sure the water valve is open. To do so, turn the knob on the side of the unit until the water flows freely. If the flow stops, check the water level inside the reservoir. If it’s low, fill it back up to the proper level.
Next, clean out the filter. Remove the cover on the bottom of the machine and remove the filter cartridge. Use a brush or toothbrush to dislodge debris from the screen. Rinse the filter thoroughly before replacing it.
Finally, replace the filter cartridge. Slide the new cartridge into place, press firmly to ensure it snaps securely into place, and tighten the screws.

Fortunately, replacing a control panel is fairly simple. Here are the steps you need to follow:
First, turn off the power supply switch located near the back of your refrigerator. Next, unplug the refrigerator from the wall outlet.
Next, remove the back cover of your refrigerator. There are screws holding the back cover together. Use a screwdriver to loosen the screws. Once the screws are loose, pull the back cover away from the rest of the unit.
Now, disconnect the wiring harness from the control panel. To do this, first locate the wires coming from the control panel. They look like black cables with white stripes. These are the wires that connect the control panel to the refrigerator.

4. Dispenser switch
The next thing you should check is the switch for the dispenser. It can be found under the front panel of the refrigerator. The switch controls whether the water comes out of the faucet or the ice maker.
To find the switch, lift up the front panel of the fridge. You will notice two switches. Make sure both of them are turned on. If one of them isn’t working, try turning it on manual.

Finally, replace the water filter with a brand new one. If yours doesn’t have a place to screw in, just slide it onto the threads on the bottom of the reservoir.
6. Door switch
Most sub-zero refrigerators have a single sensor that detects both cold air coming out of the freezer compartment and hot air coming back into the freezer compartment. When the sensor senses that the temperature inside the freezer compartment is rising above a certain level, it sends a signal to the compressor to turn itself off.
However, if the sensor fails to sense the return air temperature correctly, the compressor won’t stop running. Instead, the compressor will continue running until the temperature inside the freezer rises high enough to trigger another shutdown cycle. Eventually, the compressor will burn out.
This type of failure is called a false trip. False trips happen when something goes wrong with the sensor, so the sensor doesn’t properly measure the temperature of the air returning to the freezer.
Sometimes, a false trip happens simply because the sensor is dirty. Other times, the sensor malfunctions due to a mechanical issue. For instance, the sensor could fail to work properly because its contacts become corroded over time.
It’s possible to test the sensor yourself to find out if it’s malfunctioning. Simply open the freezer door, wait a minute, and then close the door again. If the sensor still shuts off the compressor after a minute, then it probably needs replacing.
