This guide explains you how to replace the auger in your GE ice maker.

How to Replace the Auger in a GE Ice Maker
1. Remove the ice maker from the freezer compartment. 2. Disconnect the power cord and remove the back panel.
Installing the New Auger
To replace the auger, you will need to remove the top plate. To do this, lift the top plate off the unit using the two screws located near the front edge of the unit. Then, slide the top plate forward until it clears the bottom of the unit. Lift the top plate off the bottom of the unit using the two bolts located near the rear edge of the unit. Slide the top plate forward until the new auger is clear of the old one. Install the new auger into the unit and tighten the two bolts. Reinstall the top plate and connect the power cord.

To check if the auger is working properly, place a piece of paper into the bottom of the ice cube tray. If the paper comes out clean, the auger is working fine. If the paper gets wet, the auger needs repair.
