Couscous is a staple in Moroccan cuisine.
It’s usually served cold or at room temperature.
If you want to reheat it, you can either microwave it or boil it.
The problem is that both methods take too long.
So instead of boiling or microwaving couscous, try these simple steps to get a perfectly cooked version
What is Couscous?
Couscous is a type of pasta that originated in North Africa. It is usually served hot and is traditionally eaten with meat dishes. Couscous is similar to Israeli couscous but it is larger and fluffier. Couscous is prepared differently from other types of pasta because it cooks quickly. It is cooked by adding liquid to the dry ingredients and stirring constantly until the mixture thickens. How to reheat couscous? Step 1: Add 2 cups of cold water to a medium saucepan. Bring the water to a boil over high heat. Stir in the couscous. Reduce the heat to low and simmer, covered, for 10 minutes. Remove the pan from the heat and let stand, covered, for 5 minutes. Fluff the couscous with a fork.
How To Reheat Couscous On The Stovetop
Reheating couscous is easy. Simply place the uncooked couscous into a bowl and pour boiling water over it. Cover the bowl tightly with plastic wrap and set aside for about 15 minutes. Then drain off any remaining water and serve.
Reheating in a Frying Pan
To reheat couscous in a pan, simply add 1 cup of boiling water to a medium saucepan and stir in 2 cups of couscous. Bring to a boil, reduce heat to low, cover and let sit until liquid is absorbed, about 10 minutes. Fluff couscous with a fork and season with salt and pepper.
Reheating in a Saucepan
To reheat pasta in a saucepan, bring 4 quarts of water to a boil in a large pot. Add 1 tablespoon salt per quart of water. Stir in pasta and return to a boil. Reduce heat to medium-low and simmer, stirring occasionally, until al dente, 8 to 12 minutes. Drain pasta well and transfer to a serving bowl. Toss with olive oil, Parmesan cheese, parsley, garlic powder, and black pepper. Serve immediately.
How To Reheat
You can reheat pasta in a pan using two methods. First, you can put the cooked pasta into a colander and rinse under cold running water. Then place the pasta back into the pan and pour in enough hot liquid water or broth to cover the pasta by about 2 inches. Heat the mixture over medium-high heat, stirring frequently, until heated through, 3 to 5 minutes. Or you can simply toss the drained pasta with a bit of olive oil and seasonings and serve immediately.
Couscous in the Microwave
To reheat couscous, combine 1 cup dry couscous with 4 cups boiling water in a bowl. Cover tightly with plastic wrap and let stand 10 minutes. Fluff with a fork. Serve with meat, poultry, fish, vegetables, or salads.
Couscous in the Oven
To reheat couscous in the oven, place 2 cups dry couscous in a medium bowl. Stir in 3 cups boiling water; cover tightly with foil. Let stand 5 minutes. Fluff with fork. Place in a shallow baking dish. Bake at 350°F 180°C 30 minutes or until liquid is absorbed.
