Amana has been around since the 1950s and was once the top selling brand in America.
The company has also had its share of problems over the years.
In 2014, they recalled thousands of refrigerators after reports of water leaking into the unit.
First, check the temperature settings on the thermostat.

Amana Refrigerator Compressor Running But Not Cooling – How to Solve It
This problem occurs when the compressor runs but the cooling system does not function properly. This could happen if the refrigerant level is low. To check the refrigerant level, open the door of the refrigerator and remove the cap from the top of the evaporator coil. Check the level of refrigerant in the uppermost tube. If the level is low, replace the cap and wait for the unit to cool down. If the refrigerant level is normal, replace the cap and run the compressor.
i. Clean the Condenser Coils
Clean the condenser coils using a dry cloth. Use a clean towel to wipe off any dust particles or debris. ii. Replace the Cap Answer: Remove the old cap and install the new cap. Make sure the gasket is installed correctly. Tighten the screws until the gasket is fully seated.

Check the coolant level. If the coolant level is low, fill the reservoir with coolant. v. Check the Drain Valve Answer: Check the drain valve for proper operation. If it does not open properly, check the drain hose for blockages.
v. Troubleshoot the Thermistor
If the thermistor is defective, the unit will not function properly. Replace the thermistor if necessary. vi. Clean the Filter Answer: Remove the filter from the unit and clean it thoroughly.
Amana Refrigerator and Freezer Not Cooling — Solutions
1 Check the thermostat if present. It could be stuck open or closed. 2 Make sure the fan switch is set to “on”.
i. Ensure That the Condenser Coils are Clean
If the condenser coils are dirty, they won’t cool properly. To clean the condenser coils, turn off the power supply to the refrigerator. Remove the front panel from the refrigerator. Unplug the refrigerator and remove the two screws holding the top plate in place. Lift the top plate away from the refrigerator. Pull the condenser coil assembly out of the back of the refrigerator. Disconnect the wires connected to the condenser coil. Use a wire brush to clean the condenser coils. After cleaning, reattach the condenser coil assembly to the back of the refrigerator and replace the top plate. Plug the refrigerator back into the electrical outlet. Turn the power supply back on.
ii. Examine the Evaporator Fan Motor
To check if the evaporator fan motor is working correctly, open the door of the refrigerator and listen for the sound of the fan running. If the fan does not run, check the wiring connections between the fan motor and the compressor. If the fan still doesn’t run after checking these connections, replace the fan motor. iii. Check the Refrigerant Level Answer: To check the refrigerant level, open the door of refrigerator and pull the ice maker tray out. Look for any leaks around the drain hole. If you see any leak, add more refrigerant to the system. Replace the ice maker tray. Close the door of the refrigerator. Wait 10 minutes. Open the door again. Listen for the sound of the compressor running. If the compressor does not start, check the wiring connections. If the compressor starts but the fan does not run when the door is closed, replace the fan motor and the relay.
iii. Ensure that the Defrost Heater is Working Properly
Open the door of the refrigerator, remove the freezer drawer, and check the defrost heater. If the defrost heater is not working properly, replace the defrost heater. iv. Check the Thermostat Answer: To check whether the thermostat is working properly, turn off the power switch and wait 30 seconds. Then, press the power button of the thermostat. If the display explains “0°F”, replace the thermostat.
iv. Examine the Temperature Control Thermostat
To examine the temperature control thermostat, open the door of the refrigerator and remove the temperature control thermostats. Replace the temperature control thermostatic if the display explains 0°F. v. Check the Power Supply Answer: To check the power supply, turn off the power supply switch. Open the door of the refrigerator. If the light is blinking, replace the power supply.
v. Troubleshoot the Start Relay
Open the door of the refrigerator, remove the start relay, and replace the start relay if the display explains 0°F. vi. Examine the Door Lock To examine the door lock, open the door of refrigerator and remove the door lock. Replace the door lock if the display explains 0 degrees Fahrenheit.
