A few weeks ago I moved into a new home. The freezer had never worked properly before. When I turned it on, nothing happened. I was confused – why wasn’t my fridge working? How do I fix it? Luckily, Zanussi has a very helpful customer service department who helped me resolve my problem over the phone. I wanted to share these steps with you in case they can help anyone else.
If you’ve ever bought a new appliance or car, you’ll know how stressful moving days can be. Once you move, you want to make sure things run smoothly.

This process continues until the air within the unit comes into contact with the outside atmosphere and melts the accumulated frost. Your freezer has three areas where frost builds up; top surface, bottom surface, and interior walls. To prevent frost buildup, always run the freezer door open after defrosting. Defrosting takes longer if the freezer is full. Remove all items from the freezer and leave the door open for about 30 minutes or longer. Also, clean the shelves and inner surfaces periodically.
Do you have a broken evaporator fan motor?
A broken evaporator fan motor is not uncommon, especially if your air conditioner is old and was manufactured well before the year 2000. This problem occurs because the motor fails either because of wear, a shorted coil or bad bearings. In case you are seeing smoke coming from your AC unit try checking the coils. It is very common to see black sooty deposits on the coils. These deposits are caused by incomplete combustion or overheating. Check the fuse box and ensure no power flow is being interrupted. It could also be possible that your fan motor is broken, in which case you need to contact a professional technician immediately.
Is your freezer’s thermostat out of order?
Freezers aren’t designed to maintain a set temperature but rather a specified level of coldness. It does not indicate whether a freezer is working correctly. So if your freezer is malfunctioning it could mean many different things from a power outage to a mechanical problem. Check the freezer thermometer and call a repairman immediately. A refrigerator works exactly the same way. To find out why your appliance isn’t operating properly, ask yourself these questions: Are doors closing properly? Do ice cubes keep forming? An overheating problem can sometimes cause freezing of the drain line. Ice buildup can lead to increased load on the compressor but if the compressor fails, the freezer will not operate. To prevent such failures, it is important to inspect the interior of the freezer periodically to ensure proper operation. A good way to check the condition of the compressor is to listen to the noise produced by the electric motor driving the compressor. With practice, you can learn to recognize the difference between normal sounds and abnormal noises.

To fix this problem, turn off the breaker that controls the circuit that supplies power to your freezer. Then wait until the power comes back on and try again.
