GE Refrigerator Ice Maker Will Not Make Ice – What To Do
1. Remove the ice tray from the refrigerator. 2. Unplug the unit. 3. Disconnect the power cord from the back of the refrigerator. 4. Turn off the water supply valves if applicable. 5. Remove the drain line plug. 6. Run cold water into the drain line until the water runs clear. 7. Replace the drain line plug.
1. Ensure the Ice Maker Is Plugged In
If you are having problems making ice in your refrigerator, check to see if the ice maker is plugged in. This is very important because if it isn’t plugged in, it won’t function properly.
2. Ensure the Water Filter Is Not Clogged
Make sure the filter is not clogged. A clogged filter will prevent the water from flowing into the ice maker. 3. Check the Drain Line Check the drain line to ensure that it is clear of any debris. If there is debris in the drain line, it could be preventing the water from draining properly.
3. Unkink or Unclog the Water Lines
To unkink or unclog the water lines, remove the ice cube tray from the freezer. Remove the ice cubes from the tray and place them in a bowl. Fill the bowl with warm water until the ice cubes melt completely. Pour the melted ice cubes back into the ice cube tray. This process will help unblock the water lines. 4. Clean the Ice Maker Motor Clean the motor by removing the ice maker from the freezer. Turn off the power to the unit. Remove the ice maker from the refrigerator. Use a soft cloth to clean the motor. Do not use abrasive cleaning products such as sandpaper or metal wool.
4. Clear the Ice Mold
To clear the ice mold, run cold tap water through the ice mold. Wait for the water to drain completely. Run hot tap water through the ice maker again. Repeat the process if necessary. 5. Check the Drain Pump Check the drain pump by running cold tap water through the drain line. If the drain pump does not operate properly, replace the drain pump.
5. Replace a Defective Water Inlet Valve
To check the water inlet valve, turn off the power switch of the refrigerator. Remove the water inlet valve from the wall. Turn the water supply back on. If the water inlet valve operates normally, replace the water inlet valve. 6. Clean the Filter Clean the filter by removing the bottom panel of the freezer door. Open the freezer door. Pull the filter assembly out of the freezer. Disconnect the electrical cord from the filter. Unplug the filter assembly. Remove the filter cartridge. Rinse the filter cartridge under warm water. Dry the filter cartridge. Replace the filter cartridge into the filter. Reattach the electrical cord to the filter. Close the freezer door. Turn the power switch back on.
